What is Culinary Nutrition
Culinary nutrition basically is combining the science behind food and the skill of cooking to bring nutritiously fulfilling meals to the table. Why was this important to me? The reality is that shaking up the way someone eats is a tough step even harder to do when they really don’t like the way the food tastes. After having 3 kids I realized if I was going to get my family to buy into my way of eating I had to find away to get this nourishing food to look and taste good.
There have been a lot of things that I have made that strongly resemble dog poo and really haven’t tasted much better. It’s great that it is amazing to support the body but if no-one is going to eat it then what’s the point.
The first part of digestion is called the cephalic phase. This is where the stomach responds to seeing, smelling, tasting and thinking about foods. It’s gets the digestive juices going. This is a good reminder that food has to be appealing to all of the senses!
When I decided I decided to shake up my career and learn more about nutrition and how to teach people to better use food to support their bodies. I realized my designation as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist wasn’t going to be enough. While the training taught me the science behind nutrition and the body there was a gap in my education around food. Why are certain foods important, how do we make “healthy” food taste good, how do I inspire people to make and eat delicious foods to give them energy, support their brain and living each day with vitallity!
I stumbled upon the Today is the Day podcast. I was immediately hooked the combo of humour, information and daily application was amazing. After listening to a few episodes I looked up what this course they talked about; Culinary Nutrition Expert Program (CNE). I knew right away this was the program that would fill in the gaps in my education.
It filled the gaps an more. Bringing quality ingredients and learning to make them appealing to all the senses is incredibly important when wanting to nutritionally support your body. Learning to cook with whole foods while keeping it simple is essential. As an Academy of Culinary Nutrition Certified Instructor I offer a wide range of classes to teach basic day to day ways to support your body in the kitchen. If you are wanting to take those skills to another lever I would highly recommended the CNE program or taking a peak at some of the other smaller courses they offer.
When looking to nourish your body foods should both be nutrient dense and inspiring to eat!
